A McAlester woman was injured when she collided with a tractor-trailer rig on the shoulder of an on-ramp, according to an Oklahoma Highway Patrol report.
Katie Fitzgerald, 26, was listed in good condition Thursday, said a spokeswoman at St. John Medical Center in Tulsa.
The collision happened at about 10 p.m. Wednesday on the Interstate 40 eastbound on-ramp from U.S. 69 near Checotah in McIntosh County.
According to the trooper, Fitzgerald was driving a 2005 Chevrolet Impala on the on-ram, and ran off the left side of the road, overcorrected back to the right and collided with a 2011 International tractor-trailer rig that was sitting on the shoulder driven by Mark Montgomery, 47, of Tarrant, Texas. The report says the cause of the crash was Fitzgerald’s unsafe speed on a curve. Neither Montgomery nor her passenger, a 9-month-old girl, were injured. The Impala’s airbags did deploy. Fitzgerald was wearing a seat belt, and the baby was in a child restraint.
