MHS teen is alternate for Senate program

— Muskogee High School student Dylan Matthew Oney has been named a second alternate delegate to the 51st Annual U.S. Senate Youth Program.

Established in 1962, the program selects two student leaders and two alternates from each state, the District of Columbia and the Department of Defense Education Activity.

Students will spend March 2-9 in Washington, hearing policy addresses by senators, Cabinet members, officials with the Departments of State and Defense and directors of federal agencies. They also will meet with a Supreme Court justice. Delegates also get a $5,000 college scholarship.

Nominations are made by the high school principals and are based on the student’s ability and demonstrated quality of leadership in a student office. Juniors and seniors qualify.
