This is National School Counseling Week, sponsored by the American School Counselor Association.
The theme of the week is “Liberty and Learning for All.” Its purpose is to focus attention on the contribution of professional school counselors and how their actions affect students. National School Counseling Week highlights the tremendous impact school counselors can have in helping students achieve school success and plan for a career.
“School counselors are an integral part of a student’s life from the first years of school until graduation. Our counselors are responsible for important student services, such as student achievement testing, student and parent support, and helping to ensure students reach their educational goals with college applications and scholarships like Oklahoma Promise,” said Melony Carey, public relations officer for Muskogee Public Schools.
Counselors in Muskogee Public Schools plan to promote the importance of school counseling services this week by giving out “Who is the Counselor” coloring books to younger students and sponsoring daily awareness activities at each school. Counselors will be available during parent-teacher conferences at each school this week.
