Whittier archers win first in regional competition

Whittier Elementary School's archery team took first place at the recent Region 4 Oklahoma National Archery in the Schools Program tournament, according to a media release.

The team won by more than 200 points over the second-place team, making Whittier the first school in Muskogee County to earn the distinction.

The team moves on to state competition March 26.

Whittier’s physical education and outdoor education teacher Dare Hill said discipline, attendance, grades, motivation, pride, and concentration are all positive, life-changing results of students’ participation in archery.

Hill presented the students’ trophy to three medal winners in the group: Haden Scraper, who earned a third-place individual medal, Asjha Masterson, who won a third-place medal, and Zoey Jenkins, who won a second-place medal.

The team of 30 students earned more than 2,600 points to take the first-place overall trophy, Hill said.
