Makayla McCall said that when she first saw her dress for homecoming, she didn’t like it.
“I went through a few dresses,” the Muskogee High School senior said. “At first, it was ugly on the hanger, and then I put it on. It just blew my mind, so I just had to get it.”
McCall, 18, was crowned MHS’ basketball homecoming queen during a Thursday afternoon ceremony in the school’s gym, but she began preparing for the coronation several hours earlier.
“I started at 7 a.m., bright and early,” she said.
The queen said she was honored to have been selected by her classmates.
“It means a lot to know that my class of 2014 wanted me to represent the basketball homecoming and be queen,” she said.
Her parents, Michelle and Clydell McCall, said they were very proud of the honor given to their daughter.
“It’s an honor,” Michelle McCall said. “It’s just a special time for our family. It’s an all-around wonderful day.”
Makayla McCall has been attending Muskogee schools for only two years, her mother noted.
“For the student body to select her says a lot about her character and who she is,” she said.
She added that the biggest challenge of the day was “making sure the hair was curled properly and in place.”
In her biography, which was read during the ceremony, Makayla McCall gave thanks to the senior class of 2014 for voting for her and to her family for their love and support. She also thanked her basketball coaches and teammates for giving her the opportunity to be a part of the Lady Roughers basketball team for two years. She plays guard.
McCall’s hobbies include dancing, singing, spending time with her teammates and reading.
Her plans include attending college and becoming a radiology technician.
McCall’s escort for the ceremony was David “Beuford” Beasley, the son of Barbara and Roscoe Beasley.
