ICTC carpentry student nominated for honor

Cheyenne Jones, a student in the carpentry program at Indian Capital Technology Center’s Muskogee campus, has been nominated by her instructor, Kurt Henry, for recognition as the State Skills USA Outstanding Breaking Traditions student for 2014, a media release states.

Jones enrolled in the program to learn the correct ways of home remodeling and repair as well as construction techniques.

This is Jones’ first year as a member of the Skills USA student organization. She has become active in projects and was the first woman to enter regional competitions in the ICTC carpentry program.

Jones also is a member of the ICTC National Technical Honor Society, a Porum High School cheerleader, an FCCLA member, and a tutor for the summer and after-school enrichment program. She once won third place in a state art competition.

Jones’ goals and aspirations include completing the ICTC carpentry program as well as graduating from high school. She plans to go to college to study medicine, but also plans to use her construction skills to flip houses and to build her own home.
