Phoenix earns pair of firsts in contest

— The Muskogee Phoenix won first place in two categories in the Oklahoma Press Association Better Newspaper Contest results announced Saturday at the OPA Annual Convention in Midwest City.

The Phoenix staff, competing in Division I (daily newspapers with circulation of 8,000 or more), won first in News Writing and Editorial Comment.

The Phoenix placed:

• Second in Layout and Design.

• Third in In-Depth Enterprise, Feature Writing and Sports Coverage.

• Fourth in News Content, Personal Columns and Photography.
