FORT GIBSON — Cherokee Nation and Cherokee Nation Entertainment officials mark the opening of the new Cherokee Casino Fort Gibson at 1 p.m. Tuesday.
The new casino adds nearly 80 jobs to the local economy, as well as improved dining and entertainment options for guests, according to a media release.
The property employed only 12 people when it opened in March 2003. Today, it provides jobs to 150 people in the Fort Gibson and Muskogee areas. The new Cherokee Casino Fort Gibson encompasses 28,000-square-foot casino, quadruple the size of the existing facility, according to the release.
The Cherokee Nation’s economic impact on Muskogee County is $47.5 million, largely due to the Three Rivers Health Center, Cherokee Casino Fort Gibson and Mobility Plus, a durable medical supplies company wholly-owned by the Cherokee Nation.
