Man slain in June identified

Charges expected next week in fatal Tahlequah shooting

A man shot to death in Tahlequah in late June has been identified, and his body has been returned to his country.

The man accused of the shooting him has not been charged, officials said.

Carlos Manuel Ulloa-Redondo, 35, of Guatemala is the man Tahlequah police found dead in a home in the 200 block of Basin Street on June 23, according to the State Medical Examiner’s Office.

Ulloa-Redondo’s remains were returned to Guatemala, a spokesman for the State Medical Examiner’s Office said.

His cause of death is listed as multiple gunshot wounds and the manner of death as homicide.

Juan Carlos Caballero, 29, of Tahlequah was arrested on a complaint of first-degree murder and possession of drugs and is being held in the Cherokee County Detention Center.

Cherokee County District Attorney Brian Kuester said he is waiting for investigative reports to be turned in, but anticipates filing charges by early next week.

Police were called to the house on Basin Street about 12:30 a.m. June 23 for a disturbance, police said.

When they entered the house, they found Ulloa-Redondo’s body covered by a blanket.

Liliana Landaverde, identified as Caballero’s girlfriend, was arrested on one complaint of possession of drugs and one complaint of failure to protect a minor child.

Charges have not been filed against Landaverde, according to court records.
