Parks department earns two regional awards

Muskogee Parks and Recreation Department received a TOMA Award for Creative Projects for its innovative and inspiring work on Muskogee’s Community Gardens, a media release states.

The Southwestern Parks and Recreation Training Institute’s release also recognized Muskogee Parks and Recreation  in the PSA/Promotional category for its exceptional work on The Papilion in Honor Heights Park.

Awards are given annually in the categories of Creative Projects, Innovative Programs and PSA/Promotional. The awards competition is entered by attendees from the institute, which is comprised of professionals from Oklahoma, Texas, Missouri, Colorado and Louisiana.

“Both of these projects were a vision of different community groups working with the Parks Department to accomplish, and would not have been as successful without the financial help of the City of Muskogee Foundation,” said Mark Wilkerson, Parks and Recreation director for the city of Muskogee.

The winning entry from Muskogee Parks and Recreation was created through a collaboration with Debbie Young, video productions teacher at Pershing Elementary, according to a media release from Muskogee Public Schools.

Broadcasting students at Pershing participated in the project, which has been shown on Suddenlink Cable Channel 15, the school district’s broadcast station.
