A bicyclist was hit by a car just outside Cherokee County on Monday, leaving the rider critically injured, according to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol.
Calvin Vann was listed in serious condition Tuesday at St. John Medical Center in Tulsa, a hospital spokeswoman said.
The trooper’s report states that about 7:20 p.m., Vann, 46, of Tahlequah was riding a bicycle southbound on a county road about 1/2 of a mile north and 1/3 of a mile west of Tahlequah near Jarvis and Burchett roads. Earnest Rush, 62, of Locust Grove was driving a 2012 Chevrolet Sonic southbound on the same road and tried to pass Vann on the left. Vann’s bicycle went left into the side of Rush’s car. Neither Rush nor his passenger were injured. Vann was not wearing a helmet, according to the OHP report.
