BREAKING NEWS: Muskogee man sentenced to life in prison

— A Muskogee man was sentenced Monday to life in prison for the Nov. 11, 2011, slaying of Roshun English, 35.

Dawaan James Norwood, 22, was convicted of the murder last October. He was sentenced Monday by District Judge Tom Alford, who called the slaying a "multiple tragedy," to a term of life in prison with the possibility of parole. A life term is calculated as 45 years in the state of Oklahoma. Norwood will be eiligible for parole after 85 percent of his term — just more than 38 years — is completed.
