Area man held in killing for hire case

— A Tahlequah man was jailed Tuesday for allegedly attempting to hire someone to kill a man he believed was in a relationship with his wife, said District 27 District Attorney Brian Kuester.

Jesus Cerda, 38, was arrested Tuesday after information was received last week about the plot. Kuester said a warrant for Cerda’s arrest was issued on the April 12 after investigators learned Cerda “had solicited another person to kill a third party.”

Kuester said the investigation was conducted by the District 27 Drug and Violent Crimes Task Force, the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. The Tahlequah Police Department SWAT Team made the arrest, Kuester said.

Cerda was charged with two separate crimes in March. He was charged with transporting a loaded firearm in a motor vehicle March 11, then charged 11 days later with intimidating a witness. He’s set to appear in court June 3 for a sounding docket to set a date for his preliminary hearing on both charges.
