CSC freshmen take third in livestock judging contest

The Connors State College livestock judging team recently traveled to Kansas for competition at the Flint Hills Classic Livestock Judging Contest, a media release states.

At the Manhattan, Kan., contest, the freshmen won third high team overall, had a top 10 overall individual, a top 10 sheep individual, and numerous other top five teams.

The freshmen team finished third overall with a score of 4,511 under Fort Scott Community College and Redlands Community College. The team won the sheep division, was fourth overall in swine, and fifth high team in reasons. The contest consisted of 14-placing classes and six sets of reasons.

Team member Zane Webster, a freshman, agriculture education major from San Simon, Ariz., was seventh high individual overall, with a score of 924.

Allison Tarvin, a freshman agriculture communications major from Mount Olivet, Ky., placed 10th individually in the sheep division.

“The Flint Hills Classic was a tough contest that was a challenge to our students, though very beneficial,” said Chase Reed, CSC assistant livestock judging coach. “We hope to build on our mistakes and regroup for future contests.”

Coached by Blake Nelson and Chase Reed, team members include: Zane Webster, San Simon, Ariz; Allison Tarvin, Mount Olivet, Ky.; Cassi Allread, Union City; Wyatt Smith, Adair; Preston Ogden, Quinton; Alicia Castaneda, Las Cruces, N.M.; Morgan Cook, Reed City, Mich.; Morgan Anderson, Tahlequah; Keegan Vander Molen, Pella, Iowa; Ross Taylor, Okemah; Bryce Hauenstein, Pryor; Paydon Kautzman, Wingate, Ind.; Robyn Smalley, Nowata; Jordan Moubry, Russell, Kan.; Clayton Moubry, Russell, Kan.; and Samantha Harvey, Sperry.
