$10K still up for grabs

No winners present at Magic Holiday Giveaway

Someone who shopped at Hughes Lumber or Save-A-Lot supermarket within the past month could be $10,000 richer if that little red Magic Holiday Giveaway ticket hasn’t been lost.

Otherwise, Mandy Lawrence of Braggs will have a Happy New Year indeed.

Of all the hundreds of shoppers who packed Arrowhead Mall at Thursday night’s giveaway drawing, none claimed the winning ticket number of 0392577 that came from Hughes Lumber or the first alternate, 0491809 from Save-A-Lot Supermarket.

Lawrence, an operator at Georgia-Pacific, had the second alternate ticket, from Walgreens East. If nobody claims the top two tickets by noon Dec. 28, she wins the grand prize.

“This is a great deal,” she said. “I won $1,000 from the doughnut shop on Chandler Road last year during the weekly drawing.”

Nobody was present to claim the $10,000 Bonus Bucks drawing offered by the cable company SuddenLink. The holder of that winning ticket, 0271888 from Economy Pharmacy West, had to be there at the mall during the drawing to win and was given one minute to get to the stage and claim the ticket. No other number was called for that drawing.

Not that people didn’t try. Scores of anxious shoppers clutched strands of tickets that were longer than they were tall.

“Bob Loftis loves us,” said Muskogee resident Kim Reichard, referring to a furniture store owner. Reichard held at least 40 tickets she received from one purchase at the furniture store, a bedroom set.

“Then I went back and got a curio cabinet,” she said, holding up 28 tickets she got from that purchase. “We’re going to pay all our bills.”

Other ticket holders had them stacked in neat rows on tables.

Sue Harris, president of the Greater Muskogee Area Chamber of Commerce, said exactly one million Magic Holiday Giveaway tickets were handed out by 80 merchants.
