Sex criminal gets no jail time

Unless revoked Boyd will not serve three 15-year sentences

— A Muskogee man who pleaded guilty Tuesday to multiple sex crimes against a juvenile will spend no time in jail after being given a suspended sentence.

Shane Clive Boyd, 36, was accused last October of trading meth, prescription drugs and $100 to an underage girl in exchange for sexual favors. Court documents state Boyd asked the girl if he could film some of the acts, which occurred between Sept. 23, 2009 and Sept. 19, 2012.

He was charged with:

• Child sexual abuse.

• Lewd molestation.

• Lewd or indecent acts to a child under 16.

• Incest.

Assistant Muskogee County District Attorney Tim King said last week that it was difficult, at times, to get victims of sex crimes to testify in court, which eventually led to the plea deal being offered.

“It’s better than (the case) being dismissed and there being no consequence,” King said last week.

Last week, Boyd and his attorney, Heather Hilfiger, appeared in Special District Judge Robin Adair’s courtroom and announced they were waiving Boyd’s preliminary hearing in anticipation of pleading Tuesday.

Boyd received three 15-year sentences on the first three counts, and a 10-year sentence on the fourth count. All counts will run concurrent.

Under the rules of the agreement, Boyd will pay court costs, attend sex offender counseling and stay away from the girl he’s convicted of molesting.

He’s also required to abide by sex offender rules and conditions.

Boyd will serve no prison time for the conviction, unless his sentence revoked during his probation.

Boyd has a criminal history back to Feb. 28, 1995, when he was convicted of use of a weapon during commission of a felony and first-degree burglary.

He’s been convicted three other times:

• Dec. 17, 1998, for grand larceny.

• Nov. 3, 2000, for assault and battery with a deadly weapon and felonious possession of a firearm.

• March 6, 2012, for falsely personate to create liability.
