Cherokee Nation Gaming Commission raises $3,000 for Angel Tree

TAHLEQUAH — The Cherokee Nation Gaming Commission Tahlequah office raised $3,000 for this year’s Angel Tree, just by wearing jeans to work throughout the year, a media release states.

The staff of 27 started a donation fund in January with the option to pay $2 a day or $20 per month to wear jeans to the office, which ended up tripling the $900 raised in previous years.

The group handed over a check Tuesday to Angel Tree organizers for the charity program that helps ensure more than 2,000 Cherokee children receive clothes and gifts for Christmas.

Eligible parents have until Friday to apply for the program at the Cherokee Nation in Tahlequah. The public and Cherokee Nation employees will be able to adopt an “angel” during and after the official kickoff, which is from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. Nov. 26 at the W.W. Keeler Complex.

Anyone wishing to donate locally can pick up an angel at the Cherokee Nation in Tahlequah, or those outside of Oklahoma who want to make monetary, toy or clothing donations can participate by calling (918) 266-5626 or (918) 458-6900.
