Torch relay from Tahlequah to Fort Gibson

Cherokee Nation Marshal Lt. Chad McCarter, left, Fort Gibson Reserve Sgt. Bryan Cantrell and Fort Gibson Officer Anthony Brown carry the Special Olympics torch during the Oklahoma Law Enforcement Torch Run on Friday. The relay-style run began in Tahlequah, with Cherokee County Sheriff’s Department deputies and Tahlequah police officers also participating, and ended at the Fort Gibson Casino. McCarter ran the entire 25 miles, said Lt. Mike Roach, Cherokee Nation Marshal Service, in a media release. “This is just one of the small things we can do to help bring awareness to the Special Olympic athletes,” Roach said. The Torch Run is a series of relay runs leading up to the Special Olympics Oklahoma State Summer Games, according to the official website. Runners carry the Torch from all corners of the state and meet up in Stillwater.
