Corps postpones campsite openings

— TULSA — The Army Corps of Engineers, Tulsa District has delayed the opening of all Corps-operated campgrounds along the Oklahoma portion of the McClellan-Kerr Arkansas River Navigation System until May 15. The exceptions are Bluff Landing and the Tullahassee Loop boat ramp, which will open Wednesday.

The delayed opening of the campgrounds for the 2013 recreation season allows a work plan to be developed that takes into account a reduction of funds. The uncertainty of final project funding necessitated the delay of recreation-related service contracts and the hiring of temporary park rangers.

However, the Corps of Engineers has identified enough funding to keep Bluff Landing on the navigation system open for the season with full services.

At this time, only recreation areas along the navigation system — and not lakes in the Tulsa District — will be affected.
