When Blake Shelton announced the Swon Brothers would move on to the next round of “The Voice,” Tammy Swon threw her arms in the air and cheered.
Shelton said fellow Oklahomans, Zach and Colton Swon, were his very first duo to make it past the battle rounds of NBC’s “The Voice.”
Then he chose the Swon brothers to continue on to the live performance rounds next week, making them the first duo who will perform live on “The Voice.”
Friends and family watched the show at New Hope Assembly of God in Muskogee on Tuesday, making jokes and cheering with every glimpse of the brothers throughout the show.
Soon after the show, the brothers posted about their win on Facebook — referencing the song they sang, “Drift Away.”
“Thank The Lord we are headed to lives! All y’all’s support and prayers have paid off, thank you!! “Give me the beat boys,” they said.
Tammy wasn’t the only one cheering the brothers on. So was their father Kelly Swon and Colton’s and Zach’s girlfriends, Lacey Lashley and Racie Jackson, plus a host of friends and family.
Hearing her sons made it to the next level was emotional for Tammy, she said.
“It brought me back to when they started singing,” she said. “Whether or not they win they have really jumped a hurdle here. It almost made me cry.”
Kelly said he hopes Muskogee starts a trend in supporting the brothers that spreads throughout the state, and possibly the nation.
“Being Okies from Muskogee, I’d like to see Muskogee take the lead,” he said. “Let’s show the rest of the state this is really history in the making.”
Zach and Colton already have Muskogee fans — viewer Nella Smith called the Phoenix after the show to say, “I think we should help these boys out. Everybody in Muskogee should call in and vote for them.”
Live performances begin next week. The show is on KJRH at 7 p.m. each Monday and Tuesday. The audience will be able to vote for their favorites, and two artists will be eliminated each night.
