Man faces manslaughter charge

A Muskogee nurse died in January from multiple stab wounds he sustained during a fight in an apartment complex parking lot, according to court documents.

John Charles Wier, 47, was a nurse at EASTAR Health System when he died after an altercation with Bruce Alan Peixotto, 43, of Muskogee, who was charged Friday with first-degree manslaughter, according to court documents.

Police were called to the 3700 block of Club Estates Drive about 10:30 p.m. Jan. 20.

Wier “stopped breathing and collapsed” during the fight with Peixotto, police said in January.

Police said in the days after Wier’s death they were unsure what caused his death and were waiting on a report from the medical examiner’s office.

Court documents filed Friday reveal Peixotto allegedly stabbed Wier during a fight in the parking lot with a small, sharp object multiple times in the chest area.

Wier was transported to the emergency room, where he was pronounced dead, the affidavit says.

Peixotto was in Muskogee County District Court on Friday and ordered held in the Muskogee County/City Detention Facility on $50,000 bond.

The charges say Peixotto “was acting in the heat of passion” when he allegedly stabbed Wier.

Wier was a lifelong Stigler resident, according to his obituary. He was an Air Force veteran and served from 1983 to 1991.

He also was a veteran of the Army Reserves and the Air Force Reserves.

Wier was a registered nurse and a graduate of Connors State College. Through his career he had worked at many hospitals and as a construction safety coordinator.

He was survived by a daughter and two sons.

Peixotto will be back in Muskogee County District Court on July 1 for a sounding docket. At that time, a date will be set for a preliminary hearing.

If found guilty of first-degree manslaughter Peixotto could be sentenced to no less than four years in the custody of the Department of Corrections.
