Chamber waits for winner

Winning number was from Creek Nation Casino

Ticket number 229269, the Greater Muskogee Area Chamber of Commerce is looking for you.

Whoever got this ticket from Muskogee Creek Nation Casino has the winning number for the Chamber’s $10,000 Magic Holiday Giveaway.

The winning number, plus seven alternate numbers, were announced Thursday at Arrowhead Mall. The winning ticket holder has until Jan. 3 to contact the chamber and claim the ticket.

Christean Boswell of Muskogee claimed one of the alternate tickets during the announcement. She said it took a while for her to realize she had a winning number.

Boswell had ticket 654261 from Lowe’s.

“When I thought I had it, I couldn’t find it,” she said, adding that she started looking through her tickets once the number was announced.

She said she thinks she was buying paint when she got the ticket.

“I’m not for sure,” she said. “I had bought several things at Lowe’s.”

She said she also got tickets from Orscheln, Save-A-Lot and Golden Corral.

Boswell will have to wait until Jan. 3 to collect any winnings, however.

The winning ticket, and the holders of the five tickets called before hers, must claim their tickets.

“If nobody else comes forward, we will call Boswell on Jan. 3, and she will claim the $10,000,” said Angela Wilson, the chamber’s program and sales director.

Crowds packed Arrowhead Mall’s food court Thursday waiting to claim their prizes.

Pat Carter of Muskogee waited with a roll of tickets.

“I got them from Orscheln,” she said. “They just gave us these.”

She said the roll of tickets prompted her to come to the drawing.

“If I’d have had just two or three tickets, I probably wouldn’t have come.”

Tiffany Rice and her mother, Mary Rice, had their tickets lined up in front of them.

Tiffany Rice estimated they had about 75 to 100.

“I’m putting them in rows so I can skim through the numbers easily,” she said, adding that most of their tickets came from the Creek casino.

“I got all my numbers on paper,” said Nola McConnell, who was sitting with the Rices.

To show she had the tickets, she pointed to her sweatshirt pocket. “I have them right here.”

Chamber President and Chief Executive Officer Treasure McKenzie said 86 Muskogee businesses handed out 1 million tickets during the giveaway.

“The purpose of the program is to encourage shoppers to shop Muskogee,” McKenzie said. “This creates sales tax revenue, which goes to the city of Muskogee.”
