Man found dead after brawl in neighborhood

‘Hundreds’ reported at scene; body taken for autopsy

— A Muskogee man died Saturday morning following a fight at Green Country Village Apartments, according to Muskogee police.

Jammie Teague Jr., 21, was pronounced dead at EASTAR Health System, said Lt. Bobby Lee.

“No arrests have been made,” Lee said Saturday afternoon. “Investigators are talking to witnesses at the scene.”

Police were called about 10:48 a.m. to a fight involving a large number of people in the 1600 block of South Fifth Street. Officers found Teague unresponsive in a residence at 1607 1/2 S. Fifth St. He was taken to EASTAR by Muskogee County Emergency Medical Service. His body will be taken to the Oklahoma State Medical Examiner for an autopsy to determine the cause of death.

“We recovered some physical evidence, but we don’t know if (the evidence is) the weapon that killed him,” Lee said.

Lee did not identify the items that had been recovered as evidence.

Yellow caution tape flapped in the wind at the scene as officers gathered closely together to discuss the alleged crime. An overturned lawn chair and spatters of blood were visible on the front porch of the apartment.

Police remained on the scene Saturday afternoon to conduct more interviews.

“When officers got there, there were hundreds of people there,” Lee said.

Nekeya Lyons, 23, was standing on the front porch of her apartment talking on the phone while her 2-year-old son played and investigators conducted interviews just a few feet from her apartment.

“I’ve lived here for a year and three months, and this needs to stop,” Lyons said. “All this drama has to stop. This is shocking. This is why I don’t want to live here.”

Lyons said she has been trying to move out of the area.

“My cousin got killed just up the street,” she said. “And now this. I can’t believe this happened. The girl who lives there is one of my best friends.”

Teague’s death, if ruled a homicide by the medical examiner, would be the second homicide in Muskogee this year. John Charles Wier, 47, of Stigler was a nurse at EASTAR when he died after an altercation with Bruce Alan Peixotto, 43, of Muskogee, who is charged with first-degree manslaughter. Peixotto is accused of stabbing Wier to death.
