Juneteenth festival is this afternoon

— Muskogee will celebrate Juneteenth from 1 to 5 p.m. today at Elliott Park, at Altamont Street and Tower Hill Boulevard.

The event will feature live music. Free barbecue will be served by Smokehouse Bob’s, the event’s sponsor.

The state-recognized holiday recognizes the last announcement of the abolition of slavery on June 19, 1865, in Galveston, Texas.
