Bare Bones: It's a wrap

Film festival presents awards, encourages creativity

As hail pelted the roof and thunder boomed outside, actors and filmmakers united to be honored at the awards reception for the 2014 Bare Bones International Film Festival.

“Just as your film is your baby, this festival is ours,” said ShIron Ray, who with her husband, Oscar, founded Bare Bones.

The festival began April 3 and came to an end Sunday evening at the Oklahoma Music Hall of Fame. Guests from across the world attended.

Oscar Ray stood in front of the crowd and spoke about the meaning of the festival.

“Five years from now, no will remember the awards, but everyone will remember 30 years from now how you treat them,” he said.

The Bare Bones Festival is to create, complete, and keep going when things begin to crack, he said.

Awards were given in a variety of categories, ranging from Best Family Drama to Best Use of Blood/Makeup. Many recipients mentioned their gratitude to the city of Muskogee and to the Rays.

“Thank you, Muskogee,” said Robyn Ross, one of the night’s many award recipients. “You are the nicest people on the face of the earth.”

The Rays took time to show their gratitude also by delivering the “Volunteer of the Year” award to Cliff Moore.

“It’s always nice to feel appreciated,” Moore said. “I wouldn’t have done it for anybody else.”

Another special moment during the awards ceremony came when Oscar and ShIron Ray honored Roger Davis, who died one year ago.

Oscar and ShIron Ray handed a special award to Davis’ widow, Ann.

“He was a very sweet and humble man,” Ann Davis said. “He was crazy about ShIron and Oscar.”
