P.M UPDATE: Payton to retain judicial post

District Court Judge Jeff Payton will retain his District 15 Office 3 judicial post after successfully contesting Josiah Stone’s candidacy.

Payton challenged Stone’s legal qualifications, which the Oklahoma Election Board agreed fell short of what state law requires.

Election board spokesman Bryan Dean said there were “lots of reasons” to disqualify Stone as a judicial candidate. The overarching reason, however, was the fact that Stone has no license to practice law.

“State law requires a candidate (for a judicial post) to be admitted to the bar,” Dean said. “He (Stone) argued that he had represented himself in court.”

Stone described the invalidation of his candidacy as “a miscarriage of justice to the democratic system.”
