Woman accused of rape of boy

Cherokee County sheriff’s deputies arrested a 27-year-old woman after she allegedly confessed to having sex with a 13-year-old boy about 20 times.

Booking records show Amanda Don Ballard is being held on complaints of second-degree rape, though investigators said Tuesday they aren’t sure how many counts she could ultimately face.

Ballard’s bond has been set at $75,000, according to employees at the Cherokee County Detention Center.

Undersheriff Jason Chennault said Deputy Dexter Scott was asked to investigate an out-of-control, 13-year-old boy Sunday morning.

“When he started talking to the boy, the boy started telling him about having sex (with the 27-year-old woman),” Chennault said. “(Ballard) admitted to it. By her account, it happened in Tahlequah, sometimes in the county, sometimes in vehicles; by her estimate, about 20 times.”

Chennault said Ballard is being held on second-degree rape complaints because she did not force the 13-year-old to participate.

“They had easy access to each other,” Chennault said.

Scott is being assisted in the ongoing investigation by investigators from the District 27 District Attorney’s Office.

Chennault said several search warrants have been filed, including some for electronic information.

“We don’t know yet how many warrants there will be,” said Chennault.

When the investigation concludes, prosecutors will make the final call on what charges to file against Ballard, Chennault said.

The sheriff’s office is continuing its investigation, which includes searching homes and content on cell phones, Chennault said.

Findings of the sheriff’s office investigation will be submitted to the district attorney’s office next week, Chennault said.
