A.M. UPDATE: UKB swearing in officers Saturday


— TAHLEQUAH—The United Keetoowah Band is swearing in its tribal officers and district representatives Jan. 5.

The inauguration is taking place at the NSU Herb Rozell Ballroom in Tahlequah at 10 a.m.

UKB Supreme Court Justice Lynn Burris is swearing in Chief George Wickliffe, Assistant Chief Charles Locust, Secretary Joyce Hawk, Treasurer Ella Mae Worley, Canadian District Representative Eddie Sacks, Cooweescoowee District Representative Cliff Wofford, Delaware District Representative Jerry Hansen, Flint District Representative Tom Duncan, Goingsnake District Representative William Christie, Illinois District Representative Peggy Girty, Saline District Representative Charles Smoke, Sequoyah District Representative Barry Dotson and Tahlequah District Representative Betty Holcomb.

All 13 incumbents retained their seats in the 2012 elections.

Muscogee (Creek) Chief George Tiger is the guest speaker with Tonya Russell, Miss Indian Oklahoma 2000-2001, and the United Keetoowah Cherokee Children’s Choir providing entertainment during the inauguration.

A reception is following the inauguration and the first council meeting of the year is scheduled for 1 p.m. at the UKB Community Services Building in the council room.
