A Muskogee County man convicted of first-degree rape was arrested Thursday for failing to register as a sex offender.
Ivan Lloyd Barger, 44, was arrested in Warner after authorities learned he was not living at an address in Keefeton where he stated he lived when he originally registered, said Muskogee County Sheriff’s Office Investigator Roy Banks.
Barger was convicted of first-degree rape Jan. 20, 2012, and given a 20-year suspended sentence. As a condition of the sentence, he was ordered to register as a sex offender. Sex offenders are supposed to respond to a letter they’re sent every three months, verifying to authorities they live at their registered address. Banks said Barger’s parole officer informed them he was likely living at an apartment in Warner.
Barger was arrested at an apartment in Warner that he shared with a girlfriend and her children. The apartment was within 50 feet of a park and 600 feet of a school, Banks said.
Banks said the children were taken by the Oklahoma Department of Human Services and placed with a relative.
Barger is jailed at the Muskogee County/City Detention Center.
