P.M. UPDATE: "Great Decisions" program starts next week

— The Muskogee Public Library, a branch of the Eastern Oklahoma District Library System (EODLS), begins its 38th annual Great Decisions program on Feb. 18. Dr. Don Betz, president of the University of Central Oklahoma, will kickoff the first lecture with the topic “Egypt." Betz, a regular speaker at the Great Decisions program at Muskogee Public Library since 1976, will return on Feb. 26 to speak on “Threat Assessment.”  

On March 5 there will be a break in the program.  

Dr. Murali Iyengar continues the program on March 12 with “Future of the Euro." Iyengar is chief operating officer and executive vice president of Aerospace Operations at Cherokee Nation Industries in Stilwell.

Dr. Cheryl Van Den Handel speaks on March 19 on the topic “Myanmar and Southeast Asia." Handel is new to the Great Decisions Program at Muskogee Public Library.  She is Assistant professor of political science at Northeastern State University in Tahlequah. Handel will return on March 26 to speak on “Intervention."

On April 2, Dr. Kalpana Misra, who has spoken several times at the Great Decisions programs at Muskogee Public Library, will speak on “China in Africa." Associate dean at Henry Kendall College of Arts and Sciences and associate professor of political science at the University of Tulsa, Misra returns on April 9 with the topic “NATO."

Betz returns on April 16 to conclude this year’s Great Decisions Program with the topic “Iran."

The Great Decisions programs begin at 7 p.m. on the designated Tuesdays and are held in the Grant Foreman Room at the Muskogee Public Library. They are free and open to all area residents

Funded by Muskogee Public Library's Hultquist Fund since 1976, Great Decisions has been the library's most successful program. Its purpose is to inform and promote discussion on foreign policy and world affairs.
