Woman at center of mystery

She thinks she was raped during period she was missing

— Investigators are looking into a report they received of a woman who disappeared for more than a day and believes she was raped.

The woman’s husband filed a missing-person report Wednesday night. Muskogee County sheriff’s employees were notified Thursday night that the woman had been located, but was at a hospital and believed she had been raped.

“She said she woke up on someone’s porch about 6 o’clock (p.m.) Thursday,” Investigator Coletta Peyton said. “Our guys were notified by dispatch (five hours later) that there was a possible rape victim at the hospital.”

The woman was found at an address in the southern part of Muskogee County, “in an area near where she lived,” Peyton said.

The investigator said the woman and her husband were estranged, but neither had reported any problems.

“She just walked up to these people’s house and said she needed help,” Peyton said. “She said the whole thing seemed like a dream.”

Peyton said the woman underwent a rape exam Friday. She said the woman, in an interview with deputies, gave the names of four men. Investigators spoke with all four, who are cooperating with authorities, Peyton said.

“She was able to tell one of the deputies about some potential suspects,” Peyton said. “I went and collected DNA from four subjects so far. Everyone so far is cooperating.”

That DNA, gathered on cotton swabs, will be sent to the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation for analysis. Some evidence was recovered from the woman, Peyton said.
