Margin of victory slightly more than 1 percent

— The winner of the Cherokee Nation’s Tribal Council runoff election Saturday and eight more tribal councilors will be inaugurated in mid-August, according to a media release.

Don Garvin narrowly took the lead Saturday in the District 4 runoff election, with 352 votes, or 50.6 percent.

His opponent, Mike Dobbins, received 344 votes, or 49.4 percent.

Nearly 700 of the eligible 2,496 Cherokee Nation citizens in District 4, including absentee voters, cast ballots Saturday, the release states.

The result of the election are expected to be certified by Tuesday.

The inauguration ceremony of all nine new or returning councilors will begin at 2 p.m. Aug. 14 at the Place Where They Play on Sequoyah School’s campus in Tahlequah.

The other winners to be inaugurated are:

• Jack D. Baker, at-large.

• Joe Byrd, District 2.

• Frankie Hargis, District 7.

• Curtis G. Snell, District 9.

• Harley L. Buzzard, District 10.
