BREAKING NEWS: Muskogee man acquitted of murder

— A jury deliberated for two hours before acquiting Elbert “Lee” Meeks of first-degree felony murder in the shooting death of 2-year-old Ja’Cion Logan.

Meeks’ attorneys, Roger Hilfiger and Andrew Hayes, called multiple friends and family of Meeks who told jurors they were with Meeks the night of the shooting.

Meeks, his attorneys have said, was drinking and talking to girls via text messages and social media.

Assistant Muskogee County District Attorney Jason Perez has told jurors that Meeks had a “beef” with another teenager, went to the house Logan was at and accidentally shot the 2-year-old during an attempted break in Dec. 21, 2011.
