Driver in hospital after collision

Witness says he appeared unconscious after accident

— A man was taken to EASTAR Health System after a three-vehicle collision Saturday afternoon at Martin Luther King and Main streets.

Jason Houston, 33, was listed in fair condition at EASTAR on Saturday evening, said a spokeswoman for the hospital.

Muskogee Police Officer Brian Hackett said Houston was driving a white Toyota Camry north on Main Street about 1:15 p.m. when he failed to stop at the intersection, striking a white Suburban driven by Cindy Faircloth, and causing her to hit a green Land Rover that was stopped in front of her.

Haley Alexander, a passenger in the Suburban, said she and the other passengers took a second to realize what had happened.

“We were stopped at the light, and he just hit us,” she said. “Then, that caused us to hit the car in front of us. Then, we immediately got out to check on him.”

Alexander said that when they got to Houston’s car, he appeared to be unconscious.

“His doors were locked and he wasn’t responsive,” she said. “We started banging on his window to try to wake him up. Several people called 911 to get the police and ambulance out here.”

Faircloth, who was visibly shaken after the collision, had Alexander move the vehicle from the scene while she consoled Ryanne Reed, 5, on the sidewalk.

“I think he came to after a minute,” Faircloth said. “He had to have unlocked the door, because the paramedics were able to open the door when they got here.”

The Muskogee Police Department, Muskogee County Emergency Medical Service and the Muskogee Fire Department were on the scene just minutes after the collision, and busily worked to get Houston out of his car and into the ambulance.

Faircloth held on to Ryanne and said, “It’s OK” while the child cried on her shoulder.

“I’m just scared,” Faircloth said.
