Eufaula desecration case suspended

— Prosecution of a Eufaula woman who allegedly hid her mother’s dead body in a garage last year has been suspended, a McIntosh County Judge said.

Shelly Dawn Maytubby, 52, was arrested in November and charged with desecration of a human corpse. Family members had grown concerned after Maytubby’s mother, Erlene McCune, 79, moved to Eufaula from her Kansas retirement home.

McIntosh County Sheriff’s Office Detective Jared West went to Maytubby’s home, where he said Maytubby informed him that McCune had left town with a truck driver named Santa Claus she’d met at a store.

McCune’s body was later found in a detached garage.

Maytubby was set for a competency hearing Wednesday in front of McIntosh County Associate District Judge Jim Pratt. The hearing was ordered in January at Maytubby’s pre-preliminary hearing. Pratt did not comment on Maytubby’s competency, but said he could say that Maytubby’s prosecution had been suspended.
