Michigan resident allegedly traveled to area for sex with 13-year-old

— Charges are expected to be filed early next week on a Michigan man accused of traveling to Oklahoma to have sex with a teenage girl.

District 27 Assistant District Attorney Doug Dry said Christopher Dale Adams would likely return to court May 21 for his initial arraignment.

Adams, 27, has been held at the Cherokee County Detention Center since last week on $100,000 bond. Adams is jailed on five counts of first-degree rape and five counts of forcible sodomy.

Court records show that Adams is from Lake Orion, Mich. He’s accused of making multiple trips from Michigan to Oklahoma, where he allegedly met a 13-year-old girl for sex.

Law enforcers first met Adams in early March, when Sequoyah State Park rangers pulled his vehicle over, according to an affidavit filed in the case. Adams had a 13-year-old female passenger and was allowed to go. However, rangers referred the information to the Department of Human Services, because they were “unable to establish any reason the two were together.”

Another ranger stated in a report that he had seen a silver GMC sport utility vehicle at the lodge, and the driver was later identified as the 13-year-old’s adoptive mother. During a later traffic stop, rangers discovered the 13-year-old had allegedly been dropped off by her mother to spend time with Adams.

Rangers also removed items from the room Adams and the 13-year-old had been in, and sent those items to the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation.

Less than a week later, the teenager met with authorities, and disclosed she had a sexual relationship with Adams. The girl’s adoptive mother said she had paid for Adams to come to Oklahoma multiple times and had also paid for motel rooms. Dry said it’s too early to tell if the mother will be charged with a crime.

“I think they were so focused on (Adams) that when the smoke clears, they can get into that,” Dry said. “I do know there’s a DHS case. We’ll probably wait on that DHS case to clear up.”

Adams was arrested last week after law enforcers set up a sting for him using information gleaned from the teenager.

The dates for the proposed charges match up with receipts obtained by law enforcement showing dates Adams had allegedly stayed with the girl at “Oklahoma State Park Lodge” and Days Inn in Wagoner.
