Success Expo speaker says customer service begins with punctuality

‘Your show has to start on time’

Being punctual is the first step to excellent customer service, said one guest speaker at Success Expo 2013 on Tuesday.

Sam Bracken of The Canebrake resort was one of several customer service or hospitality professionals who spoke at this year’s event.

Bracken said punctuality is only the beginning of memorable hospitality.

No matter what business you are in, he said, “the first thing you have to wrap your mind around is your show has to start on time.”

Employees shouldn’t be on time to work just to raise their hands, say “I’m here,” and amble off to have breakfast or do their hair, Bracken said.

“It doesn’t matter if you’re the owner, a waiter, or a bus boy, a banker, a doctor or a dentist, you have to show up on time,” he said. “And not just show up on time — but show up ready to get started right away.”

Tuesday’s Success Expo also featured more than 80 exhibitors, which area residents used to network in numerous ways.

Jada Maxwell of Muskogee said she is job hunting and enjoyed “networking” at all the booths.

Dannita Evans of Express Employment Professionals said she attended to make contacts.

“I’m here meeting clients who may need employees and people who want to be sent out to work,” Evans said.

Local business owners also attended, such as LaTressia Thompson, who owns a beauty salon.

Thompson chatted at length with many employees and employers at each booth.

The Success Expo is an annual business showcase and free training venue for area employers.

Other free training sessions included lessons on how to increase tips in the restaurant business by increasing customer satisfaction, combating negativity in the workplace, telephone customer service and first impressions.
