Swons in running again

Duo makes it to another week of competition on ‘The Voice’

Helen Swon sat with her hands folded, leaning forward, intently watching the giant television screen at the Oklahoma Music Hall of Fame.

When NBC’s “The Voice” Host Carson Daly said, “The next artist saved by the audience is ... the Swon Brothers,” Helen threw her arms in the air and cried out joyfully along with everyone else at the Muskogee watch party.

“I’m so excited. I’m their Nan,” Helen said about Zach and Colton Swon. “I can’t hardly wait until they get home, but I want them to stay there too. They call me and tell me how much they miss me.”

The brothers’ grandmother wasn’t the only relieved person in the audience at the Oklahoma Music Hall of Fame.

Throughout Tuesday’s results show, each time the host began to announce who was safe next, the crowd became utterly silent only to erupt with groans and sighs each time a different artist’s name was called as safe.

But when it was time to celebrate, they erupted joyfully, stomping, clapping, screaming and hugging one another.

Jermaine Mondaine, who hosted the watch party at OMHOF, took the stage soon after and reminded everyone how important it is to download the Swon Brothers’ music off iTunes after they perform each week.

The Swon Brothers have consistently stayed high on the music charts on iTunes since they began competing on the show with such songs as “Fishing in the Dark” and “Who’s Gonna Fill Their Shoes?” — something Mondaine said is important for Zach and Colton’s future.

“I tell everyone iTunes, iTunes, iTunes. Each purchase is a vote times 10,” Mondaine said. “And if the iTunes sales are there, there’s a career for these boys no matter how they do on the show.”
