High-profile homicides on last docket of year

— Muskogee prosecutors believe as many as 10 trials could begin during the first week of the year’s final jury trial period.

Two murder trials expected to begin Oct. 22 highlight the two-week docket.

Prosecutors have pared the final docket list to about 60 individual trials, but most of those will be delayed until February’s docket because of time constraints.

Jury selection in the trial for three men charged with first-degree felony murder in the slaying of Roshun English will begin Oct. 22.

Dawaan Norwood, 22, Jacorey Billings, 21, and Schiavone Anderson, 18, are accused of shooting English during an attempted robbery.

Another man, Romonne Lavell Johnson Jr., 17, is charged in the shooting, but his trial is tentatively scheduled for next year.

English’s girlfriend, Dana Webb, testified during a preliminary hearing in April that Norwood shot and killed English in English’s house while the three other men were in English’s shed.

“Jacorey got mad and left and handed the gun to Norwood and said, ‘If she moves, shoot her,’” Webb testified in April.

She said English then “charged against” Norwood and was shot. Webb said Norwood fled from the house while she grabbed her son and ran into nearby woods and hid.

Jury selection in the trial for Deandre Clark, accused of first-degree felony murder in the November slaying of Ryan Satterfield, is also expected to begin Oct. 22.

Three of Satterfield’s friends testified during a January hearing that Clark, 19, shot Satterfield during a robbery at the behest of Tommy Dean.

Clark, Dean and four other men — Frederick Watson, Martin Miller, Jordan Miller and Troy Dufur — are charged with felony murder in the case, but only Clark is facing adjudication this trial term.

Other trials of note are set to begin today.

Jury selection will begin today in the trial of Anthony Gains, accused of forcible oral sodomy against a juvenile female.

The alleged act took place between June 1, 2006, and July 30, 2007, court documents state.

Trials for Darvin Wayne Gray, 48, and Michael George Dunn, 45, are set to begin this week as well. Jury selection for Gray is set to begin Thursday, while Dunn’s is scheduled for Friday.

Gray is charged with:

• Rape by instrumentation.

• Forcible oral sodomy.

• Lewd molestation.

Gray is accused of performing inappropriate acts on a female younger than 16 on Oct. 21, 2011, at the Castle of Muskogee.

Dunn, a former piano and voice teacher, was charged in 2010 with two counts of lewd molestation after he allegedly showed pornographic material to a 13-year-old student.
