Two held in abuse case

Doctor reports infant bruised from head to toe

A Fort Gibson couple are being held on $250,000 bond each after a local doctor discovered the woman’s baby was bruised from head to toe.

Muskogee County Sheriff Charles Pearson said the high bond was set after a judge reviewed photos of the 10-month-old baby.

Susan Farris, 33, is being held in the Muskogee County/City Detention Facility on complaints of:

• Child abuse.

• Child endangerment.

• Failure to protect.

• Failure to seek medical attention.

Nathan Barnett, 27, is being held in the Muskogee County/City Detention Facility on complaints of:

• Enabling child abuse.

• Failure to protect.

• Failure to seek medical attention.

Pearson said Dr. Tracy Hoos, of the Children’s Clinic, said Farris had brought in her boyfriend’s 18-month-old baby and had one of her 10-month-old twins with her.

“While Dr. Hoos was looking at the 18-month-old, he noticed the 10-month-old and the bruises on that baby,” Pearson said.

Before Hoos could do anything about the 10-month-old, Farris left.

“Hoos called her on her cell and told her to come back in, and she said she was taking the baby to her doctor and hung up,” Pearson said.

The couple were arrested and the children were checked out at a hospital, Pearson said.

Pearson said Friday that testing performed on the children showed no broken bones.

The Oklahoma Department of Human Services was called and the 18-month-old child was returned to its mother.
