Woman, 85, found starving in house

Muskogee police are investigating a report of elder abuse in which a woman said she had not eaten in two or three days, police Cpl. Michael Mahan said.

Witnesses who stopped by the home called police Saturday and told them the 85-year-old woman was asking for food and for help.

“The house was in very poor condition, according to the officers. There was no food for her to eat in the house at the time,” Mahan said officers reported.

The witnesses tried to help the woman, but there was no fresh food or clean dishes in the home, he said.

The woman also told police that the man she lived with had assaulted her.

“She did have some bruising,” Mahan said. “Officers called Adult Protective Services and (Muskogee County) EMS. She was transported by EMS to EASTAR.”

The man, who is in his 50s, was unable to get food and said he also had some health issues, Mahan said.
