Honoring veterans, in many ways

— Veterans Day proved the appropriate day to leave for boot camp or to enlist in the military. Shelby Palmer of Fort Gibson is hugged by her mother, Carrie Palmer, on Monday before boarding a shuttle for Oklahoma City with other area residents, including Joshua Hale of Stigler, left, Vance Vickrey of Fort Gibson, and Brandon Wilson of Checotah. Following processing in Oklahoma City, they will be  sent to their training stations: Palmer to Air Force boot camp at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio; Hale to Navy boot camp in Great Lakes, Ill.; and Vickrey to Army boot camp at Fort Jackson, S.C. Wilson planned to enlist in the Army in Oklahoma City. With them was Brian Rhea of Muskogee, bound for boot camp at Fort Leonard Wood, Mo. Below, flags fly in the breeze in front of the Oklahoma School for the Blind on Veterans Day. Flags flew all over the Muskogee area.
