Area man killed in single-vehicle crash

A Tahlequah man died and a Stilwell woman was injured Thursday in a single-vehicle crash in Adair County.

Robert Slinker, 29, of Tahlequah died when the 2000 Ford ZX2 he was in hit a tree off U.S. 59. The crash happened about 3 miles north of Stilwell, according to an Oklahoma Highway Patrol report.

Driver Starla Duncan, 36, of Stilwell was critically injured, according to the OHP report.

At about 7:30 p.m. the northbound car swerved left off the two-lane road, OHP stated.

They hit the tree and were pinned inside the car for about 90 minutes before Stilwell Fire could get them out. Weather conditions were clear and dry. Airbags deployed but only Slinker was wearing a seatbelt.

Slinker died at the scene.

Duncan was taken to Washington Regional Medical Center in Fayetteville, Ark. A hospital spokeswoman said Duncan was listed in fair condition in the Intensive Care Unit on Friday.

The cause of the wreck is unknown, according to the OHP.
