Tahlequah man in critical condition after stabbing

TAHLEQUAH — TAHLEQUAH — A Tahlequah man was listed in critical condition after being stabbed early Tuesday morning.

Kanean Weeter Scott, 28, was stabbed multiple times according to an Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation report.

Tahlequah police responded to a call at 12:44 a.m. Tuesday at Royal Oaks Apartments, 508 E. Ward St.

Mark Kenneth Coplen is being held without bond at the Cherokee County Detention Center on a complaint of assault with a deadly weapon.

Scott was taken to Tahlequah City Hospital in serious condition, and transferred to an area hospital. The OSBI report says Scott underwent surgery and is in critical condition.

The report states neighbors told agents several people were drinking in the area, and Scott and Coplen began arguing about the noise.

Aaron Pack, a neighbor, said the apartment’s courtyard was littered with beer cans and debris.

“The courtyard is usually clean, but there was a lot of stuff out there while the police were looking around,” Pack said.
