Cassandra Gaines said the Muskogee Civic Center Arts and Crafts Show will feature a lot of out-of-town crafting talent.
“We have a few locals, but not too many,” Gaines said. “It encourages me to see a lot of people come in from far away. It means we’re bringing people into Muskogee, and they’ll in turn bring tourism dollars.”
The fifth annual show, which will kick off at 9 a.m. and last until 4 p.m. Friday and Saturday, will feature homemade items such as soaps, woodwork and seasonal novelties.
Gaines said the show offers holiday buyers a chance to get an item you might not see in a store.
“You can’t buy too many homemade crochet items in stores, but we’ll have them here,” she said. “I’ve even had someone call me from Wilburton and ask me about bringing her homemade peanut brittle. I’m not sure if they are coming out, but I sure hope they do.”
Gaines also said the show will feature approximately 40 booths for patrons to shop at.
“I’m very excited about getting an opportunity to meet all the new people,” Gaines said. “We’re hoping to bring in a lot of traffic this year.”
The show will be set up on the Civic Center arena floor, offering visitors an open floor plan in which to browse the many booths. Admission to the event is free, something Gaines said is a big bonus for those who want to attend.
“You don’t see many shows that are free,” she said. “That’s the thing that is different about ours. In order for us to continue this, we need to bring a high volume of people to the show. Since so many are coming from far away, we want to encourage everyone to come in and spend some money with them. So bring your family and friends and come on down to the Civic Center. We want everyone to get in the Yuletide spirit.”
