NSU science seminar series begins today

Northeastern State University begins its Fall 2013 Science & Technology Seminar Series today with a lecture entitled “Nutrition, Autophagy, and Cancer.”

Dr. Joseph Ahlander is an Assistant Professor of Biology in the Department of Natural Sciences at NSU’s Tahlequah campus. He has his PhD in Molecular and Cellular Biology from the University of Arizona.

Ahlander’s presentation will focus on two of his research projects.

The first project he will be sharing is about the recent advancements in understanding the function of Ard1 — a gene that has been linked to numerous diseases found in humans, including cancer. The second project’s focus is on the effects of diet and nutrition on cancer progression.

The seminar will be held at 3 p.m. today in the Science building, Room 160.
