An 11-year-old testified Wednesday in the rape trial of Robert Nelson Clifton, 51, of Porum.
Clifton is charged in Muskogee County with four counts of first-degree rape of the minor child when she was 10, said Clifton’s defense attorney, Lowell Howe.
Clifton also is charged in Wagoner County with first-degree rape of the child in the county when she was 4, Howe said.
“My client maintains his innocence and believes after the jury hears all the evidence that they will make the right decision, which will be an acquittal,” Howe said after court recessed until 9 a.m. today.
Howe said he would cross examine the prosecution’s main witness at that time.
Muskogee County Assistant District Attorney Nikki Baker declined comment except to verify that the child will be back on the witness stand this morning.
Meanwhile, Clifton remains in the Muskogee County/City Detention Facility in lieu of $250,000 bond.
