A Muskogee man in jail on suspicion of firing a gun into a crowd and robbing a man had bond set at $150,000 Friday.
A search warrant affidavit filed in Friday in Muskogee County District Court states Elbert Meeks was involved in a Sept. 1 robbery on Centennial Trial and shot at people in a parking lot Sunday.
Meeks, 21, was arrested at 8:30 a.m. Thursday at his home at 600 W. Southside Blvd. by Muskogee police investigators.
The affidavit states Meeks and six to eight other subjects allegedly robbed Kevin Nichols at about 4:30 a.m. Sept. 1. Nichols stated Meeks was involved in the robbery and that money and his phone was taken.
“Nichols also observed this subject wearing a shirt that said ‘Jail Sucks’ on the front,” according to the affidavit.
After the robbery Meeks allegedly told Nichols the robbery was “nothing personal” and that those involved were part of the Southside Gang.
Meeks allegedly drove Nichols to work and gave him an undershirt to wipe blood off his face.
Nichols later identified Meeks as being one of the robbers, according to the affidavit.
Then on Sunday, Meeks allegedly shot at a group of people in a parking lot near 810 N. Main St. and hit a man in the face with the gun.
A woman stated a “projectile” went through the back window of her vehicle, according to the affidavit.
Investigators later retrieved the projectile from the vehicle.
Police investigators stated they retrieved a T-shirt that read “Jail Sucks,” several cell phones, a black bandanna and a loaded rifle magazine from Meeks’ home.
Meeks is currently held in the Muskogee County/City Detention Facility on complaints of assault with a deadly weapon, and robbery.
Assistant District Attorney Tim King said Thursday charges will be filed against Meeks.
In March, Meeks was acquitted in the Dec. 21, 2011, shooting death of 2-year-old Ja’Cion Logan. Cell phone and computer records produced by Roger Hilfiger, Meeks’ attorney, showed that Meeks was trying to meet women when Ja’Cion was killed.
