A.M. UPDATE: Cherokee Nation now offering 90-day prescriptions

TAHLEQUAH — Cherokee Nation’s W.W. Hastings Hospital and all eight tribally operated health centers will begin administering 90-day prescriptions of certain medications to patients starting today.

The Cherokee Nation Tribal Council passed a legislative act in May mandating the provision of 90-day prescriptions to make it easier for Cherokee citizens who may pick up medicines monthly.

“Cherokee Nation Health Services is happy to offer patients the convenience of 90-day prescriptions on certain medications,” Executive Director of Health Services Connie Davis said in a media release. “We understand not all patients require frequent physician visits, and this new policy will be more accommodating to their schedule.”

Cherokee Nation providers, at their discretion, may issue patients a 90-day prescription, and due to monitoring purposes, safety issues and federal laws, not all medications will be considered.

For those eligible, they can receive 90-day prescriptions at their health center or in the mail and are able to use the online pharmacy to request prescription refills.
