A Tulsa company plans to break ground this week at a site on West Shawnee for a Freddy’s Frozen Custard and Steakburgers restaurant.
Mark Thompson, one of the members of Cowboy Custard B2, said the restaurant will be the limited liability company’s second location. The company opened a Freddy’s in Stillwater about 15 months ago.
The Muskogee restaurant is expected to open in December.
“We thought this would be a good location,” Thompson said. “There isn’t anything there with our style of food — nothing really similar to what we have — and this seems to be a good area to expand.”
Freddy’s dates back to the 1950s, when the company’s first restaurant opened in Wichita, Kan.
The company’s website states the restaurant is an homage to World War II veteran Freddy Simon, a Wichita native. Its menu is inspired by the 1950s-style steakburger with frozen custard as its signature dessert.
Thompson said Freddy’s is expanding nationwide, with the opening of six new franchises scheduled in December at locations across the country. That kind of growth, Thompson said, made Freddy’s an attractive franchise opportunity for him and his partners.
“We liked it because it is a growing restaurant business, and Freddy’s only serves the highest quality of food,” Thompson said. “That is why they call them steakburgers — and we serve real Chicago dogs.”
Thompson said he and his partners project more than a million dollars in sales during the Muskogee store’s first year.
